Gods and Goddesses are extremely powerful deities, wherever they come from. All those who have been encountered so far have been spirits inhabiting mortal bodies. No ascended gods have been shown to exist at this point. Both Moari and Norse gods have the joining of a particular God and Goddess (Frigg and Odin for Norse, and Maui with Papatuanuku for Maori) as the condition for their ascension.

History[]

The Norse Gods (aslo known as the Æsir) ruled over Norway from Asgard for many years until they decided to leave Asgard to walk amongst the mortals, until the mortals started hunting the pagan gods with sticks and burning their houses down, so the Norse Gods fled Norway in the early 1870s to a place called Norsewood, until the religious mortals found them, and so to avoid more religious persecution the Gods fled on board a ship called the Hofting and fled to New Zealand.

Since coming to New Zealand the Norse Gods tend to be isolated from one another and rarely ever meets in large groups. Agnetha attributes this to their natural habit of quarreling with one another and says a gathering is not normal unless someone ends up stabbed in the eye. Family groups like the Johnsons are considered unusual, generally God parents will abandon their children when they are young or break off contact before they turn 21.

Since Odin's return as Axl Johnson, the normal levels of isolation have been breaking down as a result of the search for Frigg and while some Gods have been met by chance, others have started to come out of seclusion as a result of sensing Odin's return, since their union would mean the restoration of their powers and ascension to Asgard.

However, it wasn't until just before the ceremony called The Ga where Odin and Frigg were reunited that most of the Gods and Goddesses learned that they would not in fact ascend to Asgard themselves; their God Spirits would leave them to return to Asgard, while the vessels themselves would become mortals. In spite of this, the danger of Jörmungandr and Ragnarök was too great, and so the ceremony was performed, and the Gods and Goddesses returned to Asgard, while their mortal vessels began assuming normal lives.

History of the Maori Gods[]

The Maori Gods have resided in New Zealand for thousands of years, long before Norse Gods came to New Zealand. It is hinted that Maori Goddesses, though far fewer in number, are treated with less respect by Maori Gods. They also have many mortal followers that actually know of their existence and Quest, either from the Gods' belief that their worship empowers them of that they did not keep the secret from some select few.

The Maori and Norse Gods also share a similar way of how their Pantheons can become true Gods again by their leaders finding their Goddess beloved, which is what led the two Pantheons to meet each other for the first time via Gaia. However it was her becoming Iðunn that separated the Norse and the Maori Gods once again.

Since the Norse Gods discovered that their mortal vessels would not ascend once Frigg and Odin were united, only the God Spirits within them, it can be assumed that the same thing applies to the Maori and the Pantheon.

History of the Polynesian Gods[]

As yet, there is little known about this pantheon, however it seems that they are aware of the Norse Pantheon, due to Tigilau's knowledge of Jörmungandr and Ragnarök.

They may have a similar re-ascension Quest to the Norse and Maori deities.

Modern History[]

In Modern History of the world Gods were powerful beings that were worshipped by mortals thousands of years ago but as time went on the gods became weaker and mortals forgot about them but have remained as beings of mythology from many different pantheons and believed not to actually exist anymore by mortals, except by the God Hunters and very few mortals such as Zeb and Delphine, as well as the Dwarves and Giants.

Attributes of being a God[]

All Gods can sense each other when they are in close enough proximity to one another. The more powerful the god the bigger the "vibe" they give off to each other. Gods who have a shared history or relationship can even tell when their fellow deity is in danger though the host may not understand this in time to act on it. For example Colin was filled with a terrible sense of unease he could not explain which was later revealed to be Loki sensing his offspring was in danger from Agnetha.

Despite their weakened state the essence of a God holds quite a bit of influence over their host and will sometimes act up of their own accord when threatened or irritated. Odin has manifested several abilities through Axl despite his weakened state when Axl has been in peril. Examples include honed battle reflexes that save him from an attack by Michelle, enhanced strength to escape bondage and to beat Anders / Bragi into submission when the other God's former conquests were causing trouble. His abilities will sometimes play up seemingly to harass Axl; turning him into a woman to show him he needed to be nicer to Gaia (the then future host of Frigg), and sprouting an apple tree in the middle of the living room in petty anger at Axl attempting to continue a relationship with Gia after she became the vessel of Iðunn. However certain gods have dangerous effects on their hosts. Hel is implied to have driven Eva to madness and depression after taking her as a vessel.

A God may have great powers, however living within vessels for centuries has severely reduced their abilities; as such, these days they each only have a few weak powers. For example, while Anders can use Bragi's powers of persuasion to seduce women or convince people to do things, it does not work if they're aware of it happening or if they are smarter than Anders. Another example is Sjofn's power to make people attracted to one another only last for a few days maximum through Michele.

Gods also are known to have poor parenting skills due to Colin being a jerk to Eva or when Johan abandoned his offspring to live near the sea. While Goddesses on the other hand, are known to be quite protective and sometimes over bearing of their children. A good example of this is when Agnetha killed Eva because she believed she was destroying Ty. Gods are shown to be vain and a bit foolish while Goddesses are believed to be needy, a lot of them are shown to be devious and a little power-hungry and will even kill a God or sometimes a fellow Goddess to get what they want. Gods and Goddesses also have high libidos and sex drives compared to mortals.

Different pantheons have different characteristics. Norse Gods are shown mostly to be vain and have a feeling of superiority. Maori Gods are more relaxed. Polynesian Gods are very easily irritated.

Trivia[]

  • Ty was the only currently known God to have successfully become mortal, for a short time.
  • Delphine is the child of a God and a mortal, but is herself mortal, as are Olaf's children that he has had over the years, suggesting that demi-gods do not exist. Although Maui is a demigod so this could only mean that there are no demi-gods in the Norse Pantheon.
  • Gaia is the child of a Maori God and a Norse God, which suggests that it does not matter what Pantheon the parents are from, provided they are both Gods. However it does not seem there is a way of telling which pantheon that they will end up as.
  • The existance of God Hunters may imply that Christian God also exists.
  • Also suggested that he too is currently inhabiting a mortal and that Jesus was in fact the first of those to possess a Christian God Spirit.
  • A theory exists that only one set of gods may be ascended at any one time. When a pantheon completes its quest, it ascends and exiles the current gods of other pantheons to mortal bodies.
