Synopsis[]

What if the one you're with isn't necessarily the one you love? And what if the one you love, you love her so much it is dangerous to her health?

Plot[]

Date night! Anders prepares Axl/Odin, while Michele and Stacey prepare Eva/Frigg for their first ever date as God and Goddess – and, ideally, the consummation that leads to everyone attaining their powers in full. Which leads to a kind of high-pressure dinner for the two of them, and it is only when they bond over what pricks their fathers have been is that there is any sign of the ice between them cracking. The date ends, much to Anders’ (and Zeb’s) disappointment, with timid goodnights and a promise to call.

Spurred on by their date and Anders' encouragement, Axl pays Eva’s father, Colin, a visit, demanding him to be nicer to Eva - only to be run out of the house at the tip of a rolled up newspaper Colin has caused to spontaneously burst into flame. From this, Olaf and Mike deduce that Colin is Loki, God of Fire. When Colin shows up at Eva's and tells her that Axl has been attempting to interfere in her business. She confronts him about it, eventually challenging him to prove himself by marrying her – after all they are Odin and Frigg, right. Axl, though reluctant but also seeing no sense in not following through on it, proposes.

News of the impending wedding spreads. It hits Gaia hard – she can’t understand why Axl is marrying a woman he hardly knows; and he can’t tell her the truth. It drives a huge wedge between the two of them. Anders and Michele celebrate over a drink, and her coy promise to wait until after the wedding to sleep with each other. But the most surprising reaction is when Colin turns up at Mike’s house, bearing a contract – in runes – that must be signed before the God wedding can take place.

Of course none of the Johnsons can read runic, so in a trail running from Olaf, through Ingrid, the contract ends up in the hands of Agnetha, who assures them it is a simple contract, binding the two families involved. On this basis a ceremony is to be held in the forest where Axl, Eva, Mike and Colin will sign this contract. Zeb, wanting to know more about Axl's other life, convinces Axl to allow him to watch, albeit hidden from the others. In the blood of Var, Goddess of Oaths, the contract is signed, however Mike hears Zeb nearby and later warns Axl that there are consequences.

Axl invites Eva to Gaia's birthday, however she has a gig, so they leave it to him going later. However at the party Axl decides he'd rather stay. As Axl and Gaia are re-bonding, the BBQ Zeb is tending to bursts into flames, engulfing his head in fire – God punishment for what he should not have seen. Axl and Gaia attempt to put out the flames.

Meanwhile, in their own idiosyncratic way, Ty and Dawn are muddling along with their relationship – although Ty wishes he could tell her the truth about his cold-inducing powers. But this is Rule #1 for Gods: never tell a mortal, so Ty is stuck living in a lie. This is made worse when Dawn starts gently suggesting he might get help for the various afflictions he’s lied to her about and a vacation on a tropical island. Eventually Ty fronts up and tells her that he is the way he is and he will never change; at which time she assures him she loves him no matter how strange he is.

Ty has never loved her so much; in fact, he loves her so much, so strong are his powers, that when they fall asleep together, just the touch of her finger on the nape of his neck causes her to start to freeze. When Ty wakes up she is near death. He rushes her to the hospital, and uses the excuse that she sleptwalked into his ice-sculpture carving room. Although Dawn is fine, and despite Mike's attempt to console him, Ty realises that his love will eventually kill her. So they can never be together.
